Getting Started with Your Trezor® Device
Congratulations on taking your first step toward securing your cryptocurrency with the world’s leading hardware wallet — Trezor®. Whether you’ve just received your device or you're setting it up again, this guide will walk you through the entire process. Your digital assets deserve the highest level of security, and Trezor® delivers just that.
Carefully unbox your Trezor device. Ensure that the holographic seal is intact. If the seal is broken or appears tampered with, do not use the device and contact support immediately. Trezor comes with a USB cable, user manual, and recovery seed cards.
Open your browser and navigate to https://trezor.io/start. This is the official setup page. Always make sure you’re on the correct domain to avoid phishing websites.
Select your device model: Trezor Model One or Trezor Model T. Each device may have slightly different setup instructions, so it’s important to choose the correct one.
Download and install the Trezor Suite, the official desktop app for managing your device. It’s available for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Do not install Trezor Suite from unofficial sources.
Plug in your Trezor using the USB cable. Follow the on-screen instructions in the Trezor Suite. If prompted, install firmware — this ensures your device runs the latest secure version.
If this is your first time using Trezor, choose “Create new wallet.” The device will generate a secure recovery seed phrase (usually 12, 18, or 24 words). Write this seed down carefully and never share it or store it digitally.
This step is critical. Use the recovery seed cards provided in your package to write down your seed phrase. Keep it stored in a safe, offline location. If you lose this, your crypto could be unrecoverable.
Choose a secure PIN code for accessing your device. This adds an extra layer of protection in case your device is lost or stolen. Avoid simple or repetitive PINs like 1234 or 0000.
You’re all set! Explore the Trezor Suite dashboard. From here, you can send and receive crypto, monitor your portfolio, add accounts, or enable advanced security features like passphrase protection.
Regularly check for firmware updates and security announcements. Trezor is constantly improving to protect users. Subscribe to the official blog or newsletter to stay informed.
